My latest project is this Mod-ish dress.  I bought this fabric from Wal-Mart for $1.50 a yard, didn't know exactly what I would use it for but I just loved the sheer polka dots and had to have it.  It's been sitting in my stash for awhile as I contemplated what it would become.  Its a pretty stiff fabric with barely any stretch so I thought a Mod tent dress would be fitting and would be totally my style.  I used the bodice of Simplicity 2444 pattern, lengthened it to my desire, didn't take in the darts, and added a gore at each side to get a triangular shape at the sides.  It looks very feminine and 50's with a belt but I quite like it without a belt, more funk.  This is also the first time that my binding actually looks nice and neat.  I always have a difficult time with binding edges.  You can't tell but the left armhole still needs binding, it needs a little ironing, and then I will be so ready to rock it.

Fabric: Walmart 1.50/yard @ 3 yards
Pattern: Simplicity Project Runway Collection #2444
Total cost: $4.50

  1. Oooh, this is such a sweet dress. Are the polka dots sheer? Or is that just the shine?

  2. Thanks Deb. The polka dots are sheer, that's what sold me on the fabric.
